Word from Scotland: Ever wonder why few people preach, teach from the Sermon on the Mount?

We come to this teaching of Jesus Christ in Matthew Chapter 5 and at verse 42. Give to the one who asks. Do not run away from the one who wants to borrow. There may be some unknown reason, as to why someone wants to borrow.

Do not stand on your dignity. Jesus is asking for more than mere non-retaliation. Take positive steps. Be actively generous. It is all so very personal.

This is how we, as disciples of Jesus, can become the salt and the light. We cannot apply this to others.

Jesus is challenging the social trends. These can go against the grain.

We may even think that the Sermon on the Mount is a bit much. This teaching appears to be to our disadvantage.

Accessing Miracles

I received an email that simply said, “I am trying to figure out how I can access the help/miracles that Sid talks about on his programs. Thanks.” The implied question is: How do I make those things work in my own life and have those supernatural experiences be my own experiences? Brief as her question is, the answer is multifaceted. Having heard from this person before, I know she wants the key to live her life in the joy and victory in which Sid’s guests generally appear to live. I’m sure she’s not alone in her desire. I suspect there are many in Sid’s audience wondering the same thing. Wouldn’t we all like to be entirely free in every area of our lives? Maybe if we were, we’d be “raptured” like Enoch who “walked with God and was not because God took him.” (Genesis 5:24). Wouldn’t that be wonderful? The question before us now is how do we walk with God so as to access the help and miracles we need for ourselves or for others?   

Where Jesus Christ Has a Real Work To Do There Has To Be A Death

In John Chapter 12 and at verse 12, we come to that point where Jesus Christ rides into Jerusalem, and it is now clear to some that Jesus has not got long to live if he remains in that city.

The scene is one of where the scheme has begun to go into motion to have Jesus Christ, the Son of God, crucified, killed and silenced, once and for all. It has been rumbling on now for some months, and we see this so clearly as John records the details.

When God begins to speak in a new way, there are always those whose only desire is to silence the voice of God. Sometimes people are successful, for a season, until God in His goodness and mercy and persistence, sends someone else along who will speak for him with a stronger and louder and more penetrating voice.

Mystery - “Christ in you, the hope of glory”

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

“There is nothing mysterious about Jesus.” That’s what most people would say. Even Christians don’t often think of Jesus as a mysterious guy. But should we? Is there anything mysterious about Him? Colossians says that God’s people are supposed to reveal the mystery, but what is the mystery? (Col 1:24-27)

As we see in verse 27, the mystery is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Every single word in that sentence has astronomical implications.
