How Many Loaves?

John 6:1-15

Additional Scripture Readings: 2 Kings 4:42-44; Mark 6:32-44

The only miracle reported in each of the four Gospels-besides the resurrection-is the feeding of the five thousand. If a truth is worth telling four times, it must be worth hearing.

It probably seemed ridiculous to Philip to even consider feeding 5,000 men (and about 10,000 women and children). Jesus' response in Mark 6:38 was simple: "How many loaves do you have?" And with the meager resources at hand, a few loaves and fish, Jesus fed the hungry.

Most of the time we don't realize how many "loaves" we have. We don't realize the many ways we can feed those around us. With the evening meal, we can serve up a loaf of encouragement to a dejected teenager. With a cup of coffee, we can serve a loaf of support to a new mom in our neighborhood. With a simple brown-bag lunch, we can serve up a happy time, hiking with our little ones. God takes our "loaves" and nourishes the needs of those around us.

Let's eat!

Will the Rope Hold?

Written by Mike Woodard

If you need encouragement during difficult times, someone is always here to pray with you!
The summer between my 3rd and 4th year of university I worked at Yellowstone National Park. It was a great summer, full of adventures and new experiences.
On a day off, I had signed up for a day long class in rock climbing. I was successfully making my way up the side of a mountain when the instructor surprised me with an unexpected challenge, when he said, “I want you to push yourself off and fall on the rope!” Questioning why he would ask me to do this, I hesitated, and he wisely pointed out that, “You will never be a good rock climber until you can trust that the rope will hold you. Push yourself off and fall on the rope.”

Value the Kindness of God

R.T. Kendall Daily Devotionals - By Love Transformed
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. —Titus 3:4-5
Gratitude may be defined simply as showing that one values the kindness of God. It is a feeling, but it is more than a feeling. Gratitude is also demonstrated by what we do; it may be a sacrifice in that we don't have an overwhelming feeling. Sometimes we feel grateful; sometimes we do not. But we must always be grateful, whether or not we feel like it. We must do it, that is, demonstrate gratitude not only by words but also by deeds.
Gratitude shows that we set a value on God's kindness. "In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus" (Eph. 2:7).
Sanctification is thus the process by which we are made holy. It is both a process and an experience. It is used in the New Testament, however, in more than one way. Sanctification is something that happens to every Christian.
