Why do I have a red blotch on my chest?

Now that I'm pregnant I have a red blotch on my chest. What could this be from?

During a pregnancy the hormones that are produced can often cause skin changes.  Some women experience a darkening of skin in certain areas, others experience patches of "flushing" caused by increased blood flow to the skin.  Late in pregnancy there are certain rashes that are actually caused by the pregnancy itself and can indicate to your doctor that further testing may need to be done.  And lastly, certain skin changes can occur that are random and not at all associated with the pregnancy -- they just happen while you are pregnant.  Make sure you show the area to your obstetrician at your next visit and he or she may treat you or refer you to a dermatologist.
