Whitney Houston drowned after cocaine use, says coroner

Whitney Houston's death was caused by accidental drowning, but drug abuse and heart disease were also factors, a coroner has ruled.

The pop star was laid to rest in her home state of New Jersey after a star-studded funeral

Coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey said drug tests indicated the 48-year-old US singer was a chronic cocaine user.
The announcement ends weeks of speculation over the cause of Houston's death.
She was found submerged in the bath of her Los Angeles hotel room on the eve of the Grammy Awards on 11 February.
In a statement, the LA County Coroner's office described Houston's manner of death as an "accident", adding that "no trauma or foul play is suspected".
The cause was cited as drowning and "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use".
Other drugs found in her blood included marijuana, as well as an anti-anxiety drug, a muscle relaxant and an allergy medication.
But these were not factors in her death, the coroner's statement said.
Patricia Houston, the singer's sister-in-law and manager, told the Associated Press news agency: "We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure."
The pop star was laid to rest at a cemetery in her home state of New Jersey after a funeral that was attended by celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Mary J Blige.
The singer, who was one of the world's best selling artists from the mid-1980s to late 1990s, had a long battle with drug addiction.

One of America's best known tabloid magazines has caused a controversy after publishing a photo of Whitney Houston's body lying in a coffin.
The image, on the front page of the National Enquirer, was thought to have been taken inside the private funeral home where the star's family gathered on the eve of her funeral.
The picture, which hasn't been verified as genuine, shows Houston wearing a purple dress and a gold brooch.
Houston died, aged 48, on 11 February.
She was found in the bath of her suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel, a day before the Grammy Awards, which she had been due to attend.
Newsbeat has been talking to fans in Newark, the singer's hometown, about the National Enquirer story.

‘Linsanity’ and Whitney lead trending search topics on Yahoo! PH

By Ederic Eder, Yahoo! Southeast Asia | The Inbox

It was a week of the highest highs and the lowest lows as NBA player Jeremy Lin galvanized all by being an unlikely sports hero and the sudden death of pop diva Whitney Houston sent shockwaves throughout the world. Theater legend Lea Salonga, Queen of Pop Madonna, and football superstar David Beckham were three other celebs that were among the top trending searches on Yahoo! Philippines from February 6 to 12, 2012.
1. Jeremy Lin. "Linsanity" hit Filipino netizens as Taiwanese-American Jeremy Lin, currently the hottest athlete in the United States, tops this week's list of trending search topics on Yahoo! Philippines. On Feb. 10, the 23-year-old New York Knicks point guard outscored Kobe Bryant with 38 points and led the Knicks to a 92-85 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. What makes his triumph even more jaw-dropping was the fact that last December, the Golden State Warriors, Lin's hometown team, passed on the 6-foot 3-inch Harvard graduate. The Houston Rockets then claimed him, only to let him go again before Lin found himself with the Knicks.
2. Whitney Houston. Filipinos woke up on Sunday, Feb.12, to the shocking news that American pop music icon Whitney Houston has died. Houston, 48, was found dead in her hotel bathroom, one day before the Grammy Awards, which had honored her in the past with 26 nominations and six wins. Best-known in the 80s and 90s for power ballads like "I Will Always Love You," in which she held a note without wavering in pitch for nine seconds, and "The Greatest Love of All," the go-to piece of Filipino contestants in singing competitions, Houston was also infamous for her turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown and her battle with drug addiction.
3. Lea Salonga. Filipina international singer and theater and Disney legend Lea Salonga trended on Yahoo! Search after she reacted to calls by local singers to prioritize Filipino performers over foreign artists. Salonga was a guest in James Ingram's Feb. 17 and 18 concerts in Manila and Cebu. She said she does not base her choice on whether the performer is a Filipino or a foreigner but on whether she feels she would enjoy the show.
4. Aljur Abrenica. GMA Network heartthrob Aljur Abrenica denied that he is dating Ava Jugueta, lead singer of the all-girl trio, Pretty Young Thing, and Coke Ride To Fame winner. He said they are just friends and even apologized to her for the rumors. Showbiz reports say he has broken up with fellow-Kapuso star Kylie Padilla, but they have never admitted they were ever a couple. Abrenica will appear opposite Rhian Ramos in GMA's new movie, "My Kontrabida Girl."
5. Alodia Gosiengfiao. The Philippines' cosplay queen is back on Yahoo! Search's trending list after she met with Super Junior member Hee Chul in South Korea while shooting her first big screen appearance. She uploaded a video showing her talking on the phone with Hee Chul, which accidentally showed his number. She immediately fixed the oversight and apologized to the K-Pop star and his fans. Gosiengfiao plays a Korean girl in "Kimmy Dora and The Temple of Kiyeme," the sequel of the 2009 dark-horse hit comedy starring Eugene Domingo.
6. Madonna. The Queen of Pop performed at the Super Bowl's half-time show on Feb. 5 with hip-hop artists Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Madonna said she was overwhelmed by the love and support that she felt from the crowd. She was, however, disappointed when M.I.A. extended her middle finger during their performance. The British hip-hop artist apologized to Madonna after the incident.
7. Bourne Legacy. The trailer of "The Bourne Legacy," parts of which are currently being filmed in the Philippines, was released earlier this month. The video teaser introduces the character played byJeremy Renner as the new protagonist in the movie. Matt Damon, who played Jason Bourne in the first three movies of the series, will not appear in the latest installment.
8. David Beckham. British football superstar David Beckham launched in early February his own bodywear line for the European clothing brand H&M. His underwear ad was also shown during the Super Bowl. While he said he said that he loves wearing underwear, he has also decided that his "naked days are over" to save his children from future embarrassment.
9. Survivor Philippines. GMA Network's "Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Doubles Edition" aired its finale on Feb. 10 with comedian Albert "Betong" Sumaya emerging as the season's sole celebrity survivor and winning the P3 million prize money. Sumaya is his family's breadwinner, making his win more poignant.
10. Nancy Castiglione. Netizens searched for Filipina-Italian singer and actress Nancy Castiglione, who later changed her stage name to Nancy Jane, after celebrity cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo tweeted that she was giving Castiglione her blessings to openly date Hayden Kho, Belo's boyfriend. Kho explained on Twitter that Belo's outburst was due to a misunderstanding. For her part, Castiglione, who is now married and has two kids, said she does not understand what was happening and refused to comment further.

Whitney Houston’s Chilling Comments On Michael Jackson

By Claudine Zap |

In a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Whitney Houston was asked how Michael Jackson's passing affected her -- and the singer's words are particularly chilling given her own untimely death at age 48.
The King of Pop died at age 51 from a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol in 2009.
Houston told Winfrey that his passing was "devastating".
With her voice shaking, the troubled songstress added, "I thought, 'This can't be true. This can't be true.' I knew he was on painkillers at one time. I didn't know how far and how deep it was."
Houston recalled taping Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary Celebration with the King of Pop in 2001. Both stars appeared extremely frail at the event.
The singer remembered looking at Jackson and then looking at herself. "I was getting scared," she admitted. "I was looking at myself going, 'No, I don't want this to be like this. This can't happen. Not both of us.'"
Houston —- whose own substance abuse issues have long been documented -— revealed to Winfrey that she had been doing drugs at the time of the Jackson taping.
She said she "was worried" for him -- and for herself. "Mike and I were very close," Houston said. "No one have I ever met [was] quite like that young man," she later added. "And to have it in like that saddens me."
"Was he a mirror for you," Winfrey asked Houston.
"In some ways, yes," the diva replied. "I didn't want to go down that road."
Like Jackson, Houston was on the verge of a career comeback before her Feb. 11 passing.
A coroner's official says Houston's body was discovered underwater in a hotel bathtub (some prescription drugs were in her room).
It will take weeks to determine precisely how the megastar died.
A private funeral is set for Saturday in the New Jersey church where Houston first showed off her singing talents as a child.

Whitney Houston showed clear signs of pharmaceutical adverse effects

"[Houston,] who struggled with drug and alcohol abuse in her later life, made a bizarre appearance just two evenings before," reports US Magazine (http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/whitney-houston-shaky-e...) At a pre-Grammys party at Tru Hollywood Thursday evening, the beloved Grammy-winning singer seemed "wasted" and "moody" as she exited the club past midnight, according to a witness. "She reacted angrily to the security guards trying to get her into her car...and started cussing them out." Although the superstar smiled when fans approached her for autographs, "she would get moody again in a split second," the observer says. "It was sad because her fans noticed that she was really shaky as she left the venue. She definitely was not in control of herself." This is the behavior of a person who is using either prescription psychiatric drugs or recreational drugs (or perhaps both in combination). That this was observed with Houston on multiple occasions is very strong evidence that these drugs were altering her brain function and thereby radically altering her personality and behavior. Heath Ledger was also killed by pharmaceuticals You may recall the death of beloved actor Heath Ledger, who was killed by prescription medications in 2008. Read the NaturalNews report on his death at http://www.naturalnews.com/022537_Heath_Ledger_pharmas.html Remember: for every celebrity death caused by prescription drugs, there are hundreds of thousands of deaths of everyday people from prescription drugs, too. In fact, according to published scientific statistics: Prescription drugs kill over 200,000 Americans every year -- even when taken as directed and not abused! (http://www.ourcivilisation.com/medicine/usamed.htm) The number of people killed by prescription drugs absolutely dwarfs the number killed by alleged acts of terrorism (9/11 in particular). And while America has gone crazy with "security checkpoints," TSA agents reaching down your pants, nullification of the Bill of Rights (http://www.naturalnews.com/034537_NDAA_Bill_of_Rights_Obama.html) and other outrageous government encroachments on your freedom to fight the so-called "war on terror," the government does absolutely nothing to address the holocaust of prescription drug deaths happening every single day. Whitney Houston is just one of countless Americans who are victims of Big Pharma, an industry that cares far more about corporate profits than it does about the lives of real people. And today, we have lost yet another iconic American artist whose life was cut short by addiction, prescription drugs and the entire "medication culture" that exists in America today. Whitney Houston will be missed. May her death serve as an urgent call for ending the scourge of mind-altering psychotropic drugs and ending the failed "War on Drugs" that tries to criminalize drug addicts rather than helping them heal. Whitney Houston was also taking Xanax, a psychiatric anti-anxiety drug

According to Fox News, Houston's family members said she was taking Xanax, a powerful psychtropic drug (http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2012/02/12/whitney-houston-dead-...). As NaturalNews has reported many times, mind-altering drugs are known to cause erratic behavior and suicidal thoughts. (http://www.naturalnews.com/032097_antidepressants_suicidal_tendencies...) and (http://www.naturalnews.com/022743.html). Although Xanax is not an SSRI drug, its side effects include: • Aggression • Rage and hostility • Twitches and tremors • Mania, agitation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanax#Adverse_effects) An overdose of Xanax may cause: • Dizziness • Fainting • Coma • Death Xanax is widely promoted throughout that DSM-IV, the "bible" of modern psychiatry which promotes the use of prescription amphetamines to children (among other bizarre chemical recommendations). Whitney Houston yet another victim of pharmaceutical drug industry

(NaturalNews) The regretful passing of an American entertainment icon -- Whitney Houston -- marks yet another sad milestone in the devastating body count of the prescription drug industry. TMZ is now reporting that Whitney Houston was found not with illegal drugs, but prescription drugs that may have killed her or caused her to drown in the bathtub. (http://www.tmz.com/2012/02/11/whitney-houston-prescription-drugs-drow...) Houston had "a plethora of sedatives including Lorazepam, Valium, Xanax, and a sleeping medication that was found in her hotel room," reports Radar Online (http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2012/02/drugs-whitney-houston-h...). "The prescription drugs were officially taken into custody by the Beverly Hills Police Department," the website reported. An autopsy has yet to be performed, and it will reportedly provide more conclusive information about the actual cause of death.
