The Mustard Seed of Abundance

Matt 13:31-32 (KJV) Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:  Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed

When you look at a seed it is tiny. It doesn’t appear to have any life in it.  It colour is bland.  There is no movement or growth when looking at the seed.

If the seed is sown into the ground and provided the right nutrition of water and good soil and allowed to grow then it will grow into a large tree. Note the following:

·        The seed has to be sown
·        It has to have water
·        It has to be planted in good soil
·        It has to be allowed to grow
·        It has a time and season for growth
·        When it is fully grown it provides for the birds and not just for itself.

Lessons to learn

The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed.  Action step number 1 is that the seed has to be planted.  It is not going to achieve anything unless it is planted.  The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed.  Our lives achieve nothing unless we do something.  The talents and abilities that we have achieve absolutely nothing when nothing is done.  Mathematically when you multiple anything by zero the result is zero.  Likewise when we do nothing with our talents and abilities we achieve nothing.  Faith requires action.

The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field.  This seed will not do anything until somebody does something with it.  The talents we have will not achieve anything until we do something with it.

ACTION

What action are you taking today to move forward in your life?

Stop looking at your life saying nothing is happening, its dead there is nothing happening, etc, etc.

This is like the man looking at the mustard seed and saying this is nothing just a seed, there is no life in this seed and every day I look at it – it is still the same.

You have to take the seed and plant it not look at it.  You have to plant the seed into the ground with good soil so it can grow and become something.

Growth happens within before you see it on the outside.

A seed when planted will establish itself in the ground first so that it can obtain nutrition for growth before we see the growth on the outside.

A tree can’t grow quicker than what it is designed to do.  We don’t go from babies to adult in one year.  There is a natural growth process which takes time.  Likewise in the spiritual realm there is a growth process that takes time.  Too often we want to see results on the outside without changing within.  For example we have a desire for more money without realising that the goal should be to develop ourselves within and the rest will follow.  As we grow in our faith and understanding of the Lord and apply wisdom to our situation then we will prosper.

Too often we think in the natural realm without realising that God wants to develop us spiritually.

Too often we respond to challenges in our life negatively without realising that God wants to develop us spiritually and overcome these challenges by faith and our own spiritual development.

Too often we accept who we and what we have now without realising that God’s plan is to grow and become a large tree of abundance.

Focus upon growing and allow time to grow.

The end result is that when the tree is fully grown it becomes a place for the birds to land and live on its branches.

This speaks of the abundance that our lives are not just to feed ourselves but when we are fully grown we can feed a multitude.  This is God’s plan for our lives so that we are overflowing in abundance to be a blessing to others around us.

There are many ways we can be a blessing to others.

We can pray for others.

We can help others.

We can give out of our abundance.

When the seed is planted you have to focus upon what it will become not on what it was.

Now here is one of the most important statements in this message that is life changing.

You have to focus upon what it will become not on what it was.

It was nothing but a tiny little seed.

It is going to become a mighty tree of blessing.

Stop focusing upon the seed and focus upon the tree.

What you expect is often what you receive in life.

God Bless
