What is God’s Vision for YOU?

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” (Joel 2:28)
Recently I wondered, “If God was my boss, what would change in my daily activities?” I started consulting with God first thing in the morning, asking what He would like my day, my week and my month to look like. It meant taking the time to ask, listen and write. Earlier this year, as I wrote my New Year’s resolutions, I asked for God’s vision for me.
Vision is described in the dictionary as, “an act or power of anticipating that which will or may come to be. i.e. prophetic vision.”

Jesus was totally in communion with His Father and knew His Father’s vision for Him. Even at the young age of 12 when his parents found Him at the synagogue and asked what He was doing His reply was that He “was about My Father’s business”. His embraced the vision His Father had for Him even at times when it was terribly hard to do so, such as in the garden of Gethsemane.
He used study of the scriptures, a personal relationship with God led by the Holy Spirit, private and public prayer times and service to others to understand His Father’s heart. The vision of His Father most times conflicted with the vision of the religious leaders of His day, so much so, that Jesus appeared to be radical, rebellious and rude! Not realizing that they were accomplishing the Father’s vision for Jesus and the plan for the whole world, the religious rulers if His day crucified Him!
If we want to know God’s vision we need to study His word.
Tips for successful study:
  • Use different translations if you have difficulty understanding the meaning when reading scriptures.
  • Pour out your heart’s thoughts in a notebook.
  • Date each entry and write the scripture that was used for study that day.
  • Write any instructions you may receive such as people to communicate with or pray for.
  • At the end of the day review your entry and add any thoughts or happenings you are led to.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Phil. 4:8)
Father, help me to start a relationship with You today! Do not let anything distract me. Help me to understand and apply Your word to my life. Let me be led by Your Holy Spirit as Jesus was. Give me the tools I need to be successful at reading and getting the vision You want for me.  Thank You in the name of Jesus, Amen
