Break Through the Wall

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13)
You're running the race set before you, moving full speed ahead with God's blessing overtaking you at every step. Then suddenly, wham! You hit the wall. It may be a wall of sickness or financial trouble, of spiritual failure or family problems. But, regardless of the form it takes, the effect of "the wall" is always the same. It stops you cold.

The question is, once you hit a wall like that, what will you do? You'll be tempted to quit, to turn back in defeat. But don't do it. Because God will enable you to break through that wall and keep right on going.

Trumping tradition

He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath…behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. Luke 13:10-11 (NKJV)

One day, as Jesus was teaching a crowd of people in the synagogue, there was a woman in the audience with a terrible affliction. We’re told that this sickness had her doubled over, and that it had been a part of her every waking moment for eighteen years! Watch how Christ responds:

He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.”And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight... Luke 13:12-13 (NKJV)

The Refining Fire

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, provoked the wrath of King Nebuchadnezzar because they didn’t respect his gods and refused to worship the gold statue that he erected. The king offered them a second chance to escape a sure death if they would bow their knees and worship the statue. 

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, "Nebuchadnezzar, we don't need to explain these things to you. If you throw us into the hot furnace, the God we serve can save us. And if he wants to, he can save us from your power. But even if God does not save us, we want you to know, king, that we refuse to serve your gods. We will not worship the gold idol you have set up." Nebuchadnezzar’s face turned purple with rage. He ordered the furnace fired up seven times hotter than usual. Strongmen tied Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s hands and feet, and threw them fully dressed into the roaring furnace. The flames from the furnace killed the strongmen who bound Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. But isn’t it interesting that the same flame that destroyed those who sought to bind and destroy the men of God, was able to set the men of God free?

Wait in God's Presence

The Bible is full of God-given revelation through dreams, visions, and prophecy. We must study to show ourselves approved so that we can operate in the Spirit of understanding. We need to be spiritually fruitful in today's age of increasing spiritual awareness—which is both good and evil. We must learn from the Holy Spirit to discern between the two and have the character to reject the evil and embrace the true.

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened...” Ephesians 1:17–18 NKJV

The tangible presence of God residing in our lives, enabling us to do the impossible, is more important now than ever before in history. We do well to adopt the prayer of Moses in Exodus 33:13–16 (below). Moses asked God to show him His ways. This involves the spiritual realm of vision. If we are able to see our future and understand the ways God wants us to walk, we will prosper. It is time to see the grace and favor of God resting upon us in the realms of glory. Part of knowing God is recognizing His glory manifest in and through our lives. Do we really know God if we are not walking in the strength of His power doing great exploits?

Ruth Triumphed Over Great Adversity

Adversity and death pursue sinners, but the righteous gain happiness and prosperity. Our emotions will either produce positive or negative motions in our circumstances. Life is about learning to love God and serving others. Ruth is a good example of humble service and overcoming great adversity. Ruth, the Moabitess, continually spoke words of hope, and she obtained the power of grace to change her life. Boaz, Ruth’s kinsman redeemer, was a man of great wealth. He decreed over his reapers, “May the Lord be with you!” (Ruth 2:4) He inquired “whose young woman is this?” (Ruth 2:5) because Ruth stood out in the field. God looks for outstanding women. Our best years are ahead because God is with us; positive changes will bring success! Adversity will only cause us to gain strength and momentum as we learn to press into God.

Doors of Opportunity

Fear hinders our potential by causing us to remain in our current negative situation. In contrast, Ruth concentrated on the abilities God gave her and the love she felt for Naomi. She walked through the door of opportunity determined to overcome adversity. Positive attitudes give us energy to move forward. By managing our thoughts and moving in the Spirit, we will find ways to create solutions. God has a plan to prosper us (Jeremiah 29:11). Be diligent in seeking God’s heart on every matter. Work hard and solve problems as they arise. Placing God’s will first in our lives will ensure our success (Matthew 6:33). Abiding in His presence develops intimacy which enables us to carry His atmosphere into the world. His presence makes our path straight. The thoughts we think and the words we speak determine our success or failure. Ruth determined to find favor to prosper, and she did. How do we prosper? When condemnation, fear, or negative opinions enter our mind, cast them down. Refrain from entertaining critical, jealous evaluations. Refuse to listen to the accusing lies of the enemy. There is no condemnation in Christ, only love, hope, and grace. Ruth clung to Naomi and overcame devastation. Orpah, “the one who is quick to flee,” kissed her opportunity for a godly life good-bye. When opportunity presented itself, Orpah chose familiar comforts. She ran back to her dead gods, forsaking salvation.

Believe in God and the Power of His Word

Never doubt yourself or sell yourself short. Concentrate on your God given abilities and assets. Remind yourself about productive dynamic attitudes. Use your intelligence to find and seek ways to create solutions and solve problems to insure your success. You must believe that you are important in the scheme of things in order to be successful. As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Believe in God and you will prosper. John 12:44–49, “And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. "He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. "I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. "If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. "He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. NASU” Tell yourself I am essential. I am special, important, intelligent and desirable. I am an overcomer. People need and want me. Prosperity and blessings are going to chase me down and overtake me.

Impossible is a Dirty Word!

We need to remove 'impossible' and 'can’t' from our vocabulary. With God, through prayer, supplications and proper planning all things are possible! We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us! Christ instructs us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Dynamic people make plans and follow their dreams. Imaginative thinking promotes resourceful planning, which leads to great acts and success. The Bible calls it ‘the greater works.’ We were created to do the impossible, to be spectacular, not average or mediocre. 

When God gives us an idea or a powerful dream there is a way to do it. Anything is possible! We can facilitate it if we believe. Faith and belief enables us to look past limitations into the realm of creative possibilities. Confidently putting our dreams into action helps us grow. Positive discussions, brainstorming and measures cause dreams to come alive. But, procrastination causes fear and doubt to grow. When doors of opportunity present themselves, knock on them; if they open take the first step and walk into the new. Always move forward towards the future. Once we begin to advance its easy to continue, just accelerate the momentum.

WHOLENESS AND HOLINESS

 John 5:9b-15  The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat." But he replied, "The man who made me well said to me, 'Pick up your mat and walk.' " So they asked him, "Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?" The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you." The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. (NIV)

 
It is always disappointing when religious people are upset when God works unexpectedly. A paralysed man, disabled for thirty-eight years, had just been healed; and the religious people disapproved because it happened on their holy day. They believed that no work should be done on a holy day and that carrying a bed roll was work: therefore they considered that the man had defiled the Sabbath and must be unholy. But in fact it was Jesus who commanded him to do it as a sign that he had been made whole - thirty-eight years of profound disability had come to an end.

The Defeat of Disease and Death

When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.' Matthew 8:16-17

My friend Skip and I are the same age, plus he broke his neck the same day I did. What's more, his diving accident also occurred in the Chesapeake Bay! I dove into the Maryland side of the bay; he, the Virginia side. You can see why I've always felt a special kinship with Skip. And my heart broke when I learned he died from complications connected with his quadriplegia. It made me angry at death and disease!

At the same time, I felt a sense of joy. Christ defeated death and disease by taking them with Him to the grave. God's judgment on the sin which ushered disease into the world was endured by Jesus when He died. The prophet Isaiah explained, "He was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5). The horrible blows on Jesus' back purchased a world without disease - that world is still in the future, but it's coming soon (Romans 8:23-24). And Skip and I can't wait!

                         

TOUCHED BY LOVE

Mark 1:41, "And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him.... and he was cleansed."

MATTHEW 8:1-4, MARK 1:40-45, LUKE 5:12-15

Only Mark records this important statement that Jesus was "moved with compassion" in the healing of this leper. 

There are three other instances in the gospels when Jesus was moved with compassion which resulted in healing (Mt. 14:14; 20:34; Lk. 7:13; and once in deliverance - Mk.5:19). The difference between seeing a person healed or not healed many times is this all-important ingredient of love.

All three of the Gospel accounts record Jesus touching this leper. This not only illustrates the doctrine of "laying on of hands", but was probably included because according to Numbers 19:22, this action would have made Jesus unclean. This illustrates the New Testament ministry of the Spirit versus the Old Testament ministry of the letter of the law (2 Cor. 3:6).

Could Jesus Have Healed People by the Power of Suggestion?

Mark 1:29–34

Doctors note that sometimes people can have a psychologically induced illness, and if they get a new purpose or direction for living, they show relief from the symptoms—they don’t need the illness anymore. 

For some others, the “placebo effect” can have visible results. That is, if you think you’re going to get better, you often do get better. And when people came to Jesus, they believed he could heal them, so he did. But the fact remains: Regardless of how he did it, Jesus did heal them.

Of course, even if you hold to this explanation for some cases, that doesn’t explain all of Jesus’ healings. Often a psychosomatic healing takes time; Jesus’ healings were instantaneous.

If I had to look back on the past year and give thoughts on my life, it would be this: I’m embarrassed.

Actually, it’s more than that.

In the last year, my husband and I have suffered incredible financial setbacks. What began as him leaving a job where his paychecks were bouncing, to starting his own company during an incredibly difficult economy, was topped off with me losing my job—and the only steady income and security we had—nearly a year later.

While nothing will put you to the test like losing more than half of your income, nothing will leave you more embarrassed—mortified even—to cut back on everything in your life only to discover that you have been an incredibly wasteful person.

About half an hour later, as we were about to leave, I noticed in the church parking lot that she no longer had her prized possession.

“Oh, I planted it in the dirt over there so it will grow into a tree full of sweets.”

There are so many blessings that come from a strong Christian heritage—but there are many challenges as well. Challenges that stem from routine and absorption, rather than life and certainty. I knew what I believed—I just had no idea why.

You see, as a Christian from a young age, I knew all the buzz words, the lingo, the native language of “church-ese”. I knew all the popular Bible verses and hymns by heart, which is fantastic in one sense, but devastating in another. When we get too familiar with something, it loses its impact. And the life-giving words tended to fly over my head and miss my heart completely.

Them Bones

Are you waiting for God to answer your prayer? Today’s exercise will give you a fresh perspective as you wait on God. 

“He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out.” (Ezekiel 37:2, NLT)

For several months now I’ve had health issues from the neck up.  I’ve had issues with my ears, eyes and teeth.  I’m feeling particularly weary of the mess and continue to pray for resolutions. Reading Ezekiel this morning, I found myself reading Ezekiel 37:2.  This verse describes my current situation.

But despite this dry bone period, I remain hopeful. I’m weary, but hopeful. I know this season will not last forever. Whether I’m healed on this earth or in heaven, I’m certain it will end. How do I know? God’s promises appear throughout His word.

Who Was the Naked Boy In the Garden of Gethsemane?

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: and he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. -- Mark 14:51,52

Just about the time Jesus was finished healing the ear of the servant of the high priest named Malchus, the Gospel of Mark tells us a naked young man was found in the Garden of Gethsemane. Mark 14:51,52 says, "And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: and he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked." 

Who was this young man? Why was he following Jesus? Why was he naked? Why was he draped in a linen cloth instead of wearing normal clothes? And why was the Holy Spirit so careful to include this unique story in Mark's account of the Gospel? What is the significance of this event?

Jesus loves you. I’m really serious. Jesus loves you. I know you have heard it from your Sunday school teacher, your Christian friend, and that bumper sticker on the car that cut you off this morning. You have may have heard it so much that its meaning and power have diminished in your heart and mind.

God’s love for us is not some cliché that looks nice on a T-shirt or sounds good in a song. His love is power. His love is freedom. His love changes things.

The present Mary is distinguished from all others of the same name as “The Magdalene,” which identifies her with her place of birth, just as Jesus was called “The Nazarene” because of His association with Nazareth. 

Magdala means “tower” or “castle,” and in the time of Christ was a thriving, populous town on the coast of Galilee about three miles from Capernaum. Dye works and primitive textile factories added to the wealth of the community. It may be that “The Magdalene” was connected with the industry of the town for it would seem as if she was not without means, enabling her to serve the Lord with her substance.

Did Jesus Really Turn Water Into Wine?

John 2:1–11

What people often forget is that if Jesus created the world (see Genesis 1:1; John 1:3; Colossians 1:15–17), not only are miracles possible, but miracles are actual, because the biggest miracle has already happened—making something out of nothing. 

What’s harder: for Jesus to take water and turn it into wine or for Jesus to take a handful of nothing and make water? It’s a lot harder to make water out of nothing than to make wine out of water.

The evidence of modern cosmology points toward a supernatural Creator. And if you’ve got a God who can make something out of nothing, then the other miracles of the Bible would be like child’s play for him.

Sennacherib : The Man Who Built Nineveh

Sennacherib [Sĕnnăch'e rĭb]—the moon-god, sin (the moon-god) hath increased the brothers or destruction of the sword. A son of Sargon who succeeded to the throne after the murder of his father (2 Kings 18:13; 19:16, 20,36; 2 Chron. 32; Isa. 36:1; 37:17, 21, 37).

The Man Who Built Nineveh

This Assyrian king saw his boasted army destroyed in one night. He himself was slain by two of his sons in Nineveh in the Temple of Nisroch (2 Kings 19:37). Sennacherib’s great achievement in this area was the creation of Nineveh as a metropolis of the empire. It was he who built the wonderful palace of Konyungik and the great wall of Nineveh.

What was God's real plan for the creation of woman? Couldn’t we have all just been men?

I don’t know if you can relate, but these are questions that often crossed my mind in years past.

In many societies across the world, it often seems like women get the short end of the proverbial stick. Even in Jesus' time, there was a Jewish prayer where men praised God that they were not a gentile, a dog, or a woman!

But, what was God's original plan? Why did He create us in the first place? 

Be Made Whole In Jesus Name!

Christian healing is something very close to my heart.

I was not raised Christian. But, by the time the Lord finally got hold of me, I had lots of places that I needed Him to heal.

Like me, you may need a healing touch from God in your spirit, your emotions, or even in your body. Whatever touch you need, it is exactly what Jesus went to the cross for.

Faith Healing vs. Miracles

Before we begin here, we need to make an important distinction. A biblical healing and a miracle are not the same thing.

I am not sure if you can relate. But, I personally have shed many tears because I didn't understand the difference.

After being ill for a few years, I was eventually diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia.

I would go up for prayer at various healing services, and wondered why others were being healed instantly, while I was not. Did I not have enough faith? Was healing just not for me?

I went through similar turmoil as I sought Jesus' for healing over childhood abuse and other pains in my heart. Did He just not care about me?

What God taught me through His Word, time alone with Him, watching my own healing manifest, and watching others be restored, is that a miracle is instantaneous. A healing is gradual.

Whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, your healing usually comes in layers. It is as if God carefully removes each layer of pain as He works inside of you until you are fully restored.

If you are seeking God for an emotional or spiritual transformation, God specialized in restoring our broken places. As you discover how to take yourself before Him, shattered pieces and all, He will put you back together again.

4 Keys To Receiving Healing From God

Christian Healing Course: Lesson 1

If you are seeking God for a healing touch in your body, I want to start off our course by sharing 4 things with you that I've discovered are KEY to any faith healing journey:

1. You must believe that healing is a part of your Heavenly Father's true nature. If you don't think that God is still willing to heal His people, or are convinced that healing has passed away, developing the faith needed to receive your healing is going to be near impossible.

What Do YOU Pray for During Trials?

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. — If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. – James 1:2-5

Last night I was at my church’s weekly prayer meeting, and God brought this scripture passage back to my heart. Well, let’s back up…

Yesterday morning I had to go to the doctor to have some testing done. Long story short, he did not give me the report that I was hoping for. In fact, he said the issue was worse than he originally thought. He told me I’ll have to have minor surgery for testing and treatment before we would even know the severity of the issue, or if it could be reversed.

Avoid the Pit of Condemnation

1 Peter 4 : 12 - 14, Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. NKJV

How do you respond to trouble when it knocks at your door? I have seen how many Christians (including me) respond to trouble. There is a tendency to ask, "What did I do wrong that caused this trouble?" But here is the danger in asking   such a question: It places your attention on you and not on the righteousness of God. 

Do you remember what kind of a day scripture says that Job had when he lost his family, his livestock, and his health? He lived under the old covenant... before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. But thankfully and unlike Job, we're under the new covenant (of grace by faith in Christ), and we do have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. 

From Overpowered to Empowered

It was one of those days. I was driving to the airport in the pouring rain. The skies were grey. The day felt a bit gloomy. And honestly, so did I.

There were just a lot of little things swarming my thoughts. Feelings of inadequacy stinging. "There are so many things I'm responsible for and never enough hours in the day. I do enough to keep things from sinking. But I just wonder if I'm doing anything well. I don't think I am ... doing anything well."

Where Faith Gets Awfully Messy

Last year I had emergency surgery on my ears. And while the pain went away, there is still a really loud, constant ringing in my left ear.

Because of this ringing, I've had many sleepless nights. But one night in particular proved to be more than I thought I could handle. The screeching in my ear reached an all time high and not even medication helped. My throat tightened as frustration of this situation threatened to spill out in a million tears. I could feel myself slipping over a terrifying edge ... that edge where hopelessness steps into the moment and you feel too weak to resist it.

Serious giants are facing off against the American church at this moment. Abortion has claimed more than 50 million casualties and counting. Terrorism is no longer isolated to foreign fields. Secularism is advancing through society and infiltrating the sanctuary, and radical agendas no longer hide in secret—they’re written into law.

The church has the spiritual weapons within its arsenal to take these giants down, so why do they still stand? Sunday after Sunday we come together to celebrate, singing “How Great Is Our God” and “Nothing Is Impossible.” We sing and shout about it while the giants continue to defy it. Sound familiar? (See 1 Samuel 17.)

No doubt we could debate for countless hours about what needs to change. I believe there is one thing we can all agree must change: It’s time to stop slinging stones at the saints and start saving them for the enemy!

Beginning as the soloist for Billy Graham Crusades in 1947 in Charlotte, N.C., Shea sang with Billy Graham for nearly 60 years, until Graham’s final Crusade in 2005 in New York City. Shea remained active with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), singing at Franklin Graham Festivals in Charleston, S.C. (2008), and Knoxville, Tenn. Doctors gave Glenn Hicks a “death date.” He was diagnosed with stage 3 bone cancer on Dec. 14. Six weeks later, the cancer had spread and advanced to stage 4.

According to the Enneking staging system for bone cancers, stage 3 means the cancer has spread to another part of the body. And according to the TNM staging system of bone cancer, stage 4 bone cancer means the disease has spread to the lungs.

Hicks knew he was dying. He was experiencing severe pain in his joints and bones. But as a resident of Faith Farm, a homeless ministry in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., he was not allowed to take narcotics to treat his pain.
