If I Had A Dream

"When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations 'The LORD has done great things for them.'" Psalm 126:1-2

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on this day in 1929. As leader of the civil rights movement, he inspired hope for millions of Americans of all colors. He was both revered and reviled, but no matter which side of the battle line you stood, there is no denying that Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream. In one of the most stirring and memorable speeches made in this century called "I Have A Dream," he took us to the heights and depths of human experience.
We all need to dream. Though skeptics will argue that racial equality or sanctity of life are unattainable, I believe it is those who dream who will one day enter the gates with joy. Only those who dream will harvest the best in all of us. Only those who dream will set our sights on that which lies ahead. Only those who dream will make each day's hardship bearable.

People like Moses, Abraham, Sarah, and Rahab all dreamed. They moved on blessed impulse to see what others could not - or would not - see. Peter, James, and John, seeing the promise of Jesus' return fulfilled one day, dreamed aloud for all mankind on the streets of Jerusalem. They dreamed boldly and loudly, that we might enter into the gates of Zion like those captives returning from Babylon.

Do you dream? Does someone, somewhere know there's a glorious and attainable future in heaven because you dare to dream aloud? Dream, friend, dream. Don't let the skeptics and the sinners scoff. Don't let that which you have seen of tomorrow die today.

Dear Lord Jesus, I live in a troubled time. There's not a day goes by that the world is not in turmoil. Lift me out of turmoil's grip and let me dream the dreams of my forefathers. Give me courage to share that dream with others.

Blessings,
