When God Delays

Written by R. Toddy Jadoo

devo-interact-icon-42x421Take today’s next step: Are you waiting for God to answer?
“Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.  So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.” (John 11:5-6)
Lazarus was a friend of Jesus who fell ill and was near death. His sisters, Mary and Martha, sent word to Jesus who was healing and preaching in a town a distance away. Lazarus died while they were waiting for Jesus to get to him. Interestingly when Jesus got the message that Lazarus was sick He did not panic, worry or stop what He was doing! He continued to do what He was doing for TWO MORE DAYS! (Read the entire story in the book of John chapter 11).
Wow! What a reaction! At first it seems as if Jesus didn’t care about Lazarus’ plight and his sisters’ anxiety about his illness. Yet, the end of the story is one of the greatest miracles recorded. Lazarus died and Jesus brought him back to life!

Is God delaying an answer to your prayer or “situation”? Are you worried that your situation may be “dead” by the time God gets to it? What is your reaction to God’s delay? Anxiety? Fear? Worry?
So, why does God delay?  “When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” (John 11:4) The same reason that Jesus delayed is the same reason that the answer to your “situation” is being delayed. God is going to show up when the solution seems hopeless, irreversible or even impossible!
Through the ages when people read this story they can know and have faith in the power and might of the true and living God. You can have that same faith that God will work in your situation. He will come through for you for He says He has a “hope and a future” for you.  (Jeremiah 29:11) Are you willing to trust in God no matter what?
The thing is you can’t trust who God is or how He will react if you don’t have a relationship with Him. Building a solid relationship requires a commitment of time, energy and effort. We only have 24 hours. Do your 24 hours include a “moment” with God?
Faith is a decision not an emotion. Make a decision to trust in God’s wisdom today! Be prepared for the impossible to happen. God is willing and able and He is on your side. He will be there because He promised to never leave you nor forsake you!
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Heb. 11:6)
Father teach me how to include a moment in my day with You.  Help me to prioritize my time with You. Amen
Question: Do you find it hard or easy to spend time with God? Why is spending time with God so important?
